[Gulf Today] The Philippine military reported that security forces clashed with New People's Army militants who were observing the 46th anniversary of its founding on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of three militants and two injured soldiers.Military spokesman Lieutenant Lorefel Judaya said the three NPA militants were killed and another was captured in an encounter with troops in a remote village in Bukidnon province in Mindanao. He said the soldiers were on patrol when they spotted the militants, sparking the firefight.
Also in Mindanao, 30 heavily-armed guerrillas raided a sawmill in the town of Trento, Agusan del Sur and set on fire two trucks, a chainsaw and equipment worth more than $15,000.
In the Visayas, two soldiers were injured in a encounter with the NPA in the town of Tapiz also on Sunday. The clash happened when a team of soldiers responded to complaints that the militants were extorting money and food from local residents.
