One Dead, Two Injured in Shooting at Gate of NSA HQ
2015-03-30
[WASHINGTON.CBSLOCAL] One person is dead and two are injured after an incident at the gate of National Security Agency headquarters in Maryland Monday morning, Fort Meade officials say.
Fox News sez they were dressed up like girls
So does the Chicago Tribune on an AP feed.
A senior U.S. official says preliminary reports from the scene indicate that one person is dead after a car with two people inside tried to ram a gate at the base.
After the gate was rammed, a guard reportedly got into an argument with the men and gunfire erupted.
The official says a firefight ensued after the car tried to crash the gate, and at least one of the two people in the car is dead.
The National Security Agency is handling the investigation with assistance from the FBI. The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. local time.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss an ongoing incident.
If they were dressed up like girls, I'm thinking either Moslem or a false report. The fact that it's the Llewellen Avenue gate makes me think dumbassery. The hospital medical center is a block away. NSA's on the other side of the post, by the Route 32 exit. The gate itself is closed most of the time and it's festively decorated with concrete barricades.
A Ft. Meade employee tells WNEW that an announcement was made to employees that the incident was cleared, but the gate remains closed.
Channel 4 sez "At least one gun and drugs were found in the stolen Ford Escape the men were riding in, according to NBC News."
Ft. Meade Spokesman Chad Jones says emergency responders were on the scene and treating the two injured individuals.
The NBC New article has a picture of the guard on the stretcher.
Sources confirmed to CBS News that after the vehicle tried to run through the gate, guards responded by shooting at the vehicle and at least one individual was shot.
Apparently the guard. I'm not even sure they're armed, though if not they're probably close at hand.
A federal law enforcement official told CBS News that cocaine and a weapon were found in or near the vehicle.
"A senior U.S. official told NBC News that the incident appears to be a "local criminal matter"; so far, no federal agencies, including the FBI, are involved in the investigation."
There is no indication that the incident was terrorism-related.
If they got that from a "senior U.S. official" chances run 50:50 that it's true.
The FBI is also investigating the shooting.
If it's criminal the likely origin is Pioneer City, a development adjacent, where a hefty part of the crime in the county originates.
"We are investigating with NSA Police and other law enforcement agencies," a spokesperson for FBI Baltimore says.
Time has the headline "1 Dead in Shooting Outside NSA Headquarters"
"Our Evidence Response Team is processing the crime scene, and FBI Agents are doing joint interviews with witnesses. We are working with the US Attorney's Office in Maryland to determine if federal charges are warranted.
Yahoo adds: "The guy who went to Shock Trauma is "severely injured” and is not likely to survive." I'm thinkin' doll rags.

#17  Jihadis could not do something that stupid, could they?

I would think that if they were jihadis and were crashing the gate, they would have a large quantity of high velocity kinetic material in their vehicle. The guards were lucky that they did not.

"By Jove, Donte! That's correct!"

"We must return the vehicle to its proper owner!"

"Quite true. Not to do so would be dishonest! I'll just make a U-turn at this convenient side road here..."

[SMASH!]

"What was that?"

"A concrete barricade!"

"Stop, you villains!"

"And who was that?"

"A possibly armed guard."

[BANG! BANG! BANGETTY BANG!]

"He is armed! [GASP] [RATTLE] I go to a better place!... Rosebud!"

"You can't make a U-turn on a road on the other side of the post from the National Security Agency!"

"Kevi-i-i-i-n"

#13  However, it's still unclear how or why they ended up at the NSA gate.

Our good luck ?

#6  I suspect the perps' names will Ahmed and Mahmoud, not Donte and LeV'arr, though I'll grant they could be converts and answer both sets.

#5  But then, I don't think we've had a terrorism related incident since 9-11, right? I mean, even when Nidal Hasan was shooting up Ft. Hood, yelling "allahu akbar ", that wasn't terrorism, it was workplace violence.

#4  CBS News sez the person who said it's not terrorism-related was an FBI guy.

Did they belong to the perps or the fed agents/guards? (see-Secret Service el al)
