[Star] A Sabah civil servant suspected of being an IS recruiter had gone to Aceh, Indonesia, prior to his arrest.The suspect, based in Tawau, Sabah, went to Aceh in January, where he met an Indonesian militant he had met through Facebook. A source said, "The Indonesian militant was trying to set up a military-style camp in Aceh and had wanted the suspect to conduct weapons training for his fighters."
Another source said that after a couple of months, the suspect decided to go to Syria and fight for the IS. The source said, "He returned to Malaysia on March 19 and arrived in Port Klang, where he was immediately arrested. He wanted to recruit more Malaysians as militants before heading to Syria."
A source said, "He also planned to take his 24-year-old wife and two-year-old child to Syria. The suspect is believed to have contacted known militant Akel Zainal via Facebook."
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old housewife arrested on March 7 on terror charges had planned to head to Bali before taking a flight to Turkey. A source said, "The husband claimed the wife left him letters, describing her desire to join IS and to become a martyr."
