Antarctic Sea Ice Did The Exact Opposite Of What Models Predicted |
2015-03-20 |
h/t IMAO Climate models can be good tools for predicting future sea ice levels -- unless, of course, they are completely wrong. In the case of Antarctica, the climate models were dead wrong, according to a new study by Chinese scientists published in the journal Cryosphere. The study found that most climate models predicted Antarctic sea ice coverage would shrink as the world warmed and greenhouse gas levels increased. The opposite happened. Most climate models analyzed in the study predicted Antarctica would shrink between 1979 and 2005, but instead south pole sea ice levels increased during that time. Going a step further, sea ice levels have only increased since 2006, hitting all-time highs for sea ice coverage in September of last year. I blame the Atomic Bomb. Before it academic research jobs were low paying & ill regarded---and therefore only attracting people with genuine vocation. |

#11 Uh, uh, THE ICE UPPED + FLEW??? gut nuthin. Serusly gut nuthin. |

#10 climate is just as poorly understood as ever. it changes and the ice grows and shrinks. The problem is we've elevated the pointy headed studiers of this arcane phenomenon to the point where policy makers massively fund them and hang hundreds of billions in taxpayer funded programs on their prognostications. keep calm, carry on, don't fund "green" energy with my taxes |

#9 Professor Tim Ball discusses the reasons why the Antarctic is different from the Arctic here. No doubt it didn't occur to those developing the models to ask that question before making their assumptions. Via Watts Up With That. |

#8 Global warming never bothered me, if sea levels rise over 50 years you move further inland, buildings have a lifespan too, global cooling on the other does bother me, you can not grow crops under a mile high sheet of ice or build a house, A lot more destruction and population loss due to Global cooling. |

#7 Well, clearly the Chinese study is wrong. I just read a few weeks ago that changing ocean currents are melting the heck out of the Antartic ice shelf and we are about to be up to our ears in very cold water. |

#6 Don't worry. They'll figure out a way to make it global warming/change/instability or whatever the fuck they are calling it now and make it man's fault. So pay them more money and give up your freedoms in the name of Environment. |

#5 Like they did by re-siting weather stations closer to power (and heat) sources and shutting down rural ones. All this is "compensated" in the models, of course. Continually. |

#4 If your facts don't fit the model, change the facts. |

#3 Oh no, save the whales! The ocean is shrinking. |

#2 "This is because of unregulated Chinese ice production! What's needed here is an international regulating body to control..." (Sarcasm, I truly hope.) |

#1 Well, then, the sea ice is wrong. It's probably funded by the Koch Brothers and the oil companies. |
