2015-03-09
[ARA] Qamishli, Syria -- Clashes renewed Sunday between the Kurdish forces of the People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (IS/ISIS) in the towns of Tel Brak and Tel Hamis, south of Qamishli city, northeast Syria, military sources reported.

The battles came after a sudden attack by IS hard boyz on the YPG's locations there, in an attempt to advance in the two towns after losing them.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, F.Q., a fighter in the YPG's ranks said that fierce festivities broke out between them and radical group in the area between the YPG-held town of Tel Brak and the IS-held town of al-Hol.

"The festivities resulted in the death of a number IS bully boys," he added.

In the meantime, the YPG's Media Center (MC) issued Sunday a statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying: "The terrorist groups have launched an attack against our troops (YPG) from five sides, in an attempt to regain control of the villages of Tel Vayer, Tel Abu Haider, Antakia, Um al-Rous and Khazila and some other YPG-held areas in the region."

"Our units (YPG) responded to the IS attack, and intense festivities broke out lasting for several hours on Sunday," the YPG leadership said, pointing out that about 67 IS bad boyz were potted, "of which 35 corpses were seized by the Kurdish forces."

Additionally, the Kurdish forces were able to destroy an IS armored vehicle, seizing 28 rifles (Kalashnikov type) as well as machine guns.

On the other hand, five YPG fighters were killed during the fighting between the two sides nearTel Hamis and Tel Brak, south of Qamishli, according to the YPG's MC.

The civil rights activist Dilovan Mohammed from the city of Hasakah stated to ARA News that similar festivities broke out between the pro-regime forces backed by the National Defense Army militia and IS jihadists on the road between Hasakah and Mount Abdulaziz west of the city, amid reports of casualties in the ranks of both parties.

Noteworthy, the Kurdish forces with support of the Assyrian Military Council and Sanadid Force (fighters of the Arab clan of Shammar) seized control of the towns of Tel Brak and Tel Hamis end of February, after fierce battles with IS group which withdrew to al-Hol town on the Syrian-Iraqi border.
