UNSC Deadline To Houthis Expires
2015-03-05
[YEMENOBSERVER] The deadline set by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Security Council (UNSC)in mid-February, demanding the immediate unconditional withdrawal of the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces from the government institutions has expired on Monday.

It also obligates the Houthis with normalization of the security situation in the capital and Provinces, as well as release of the detained government officials and to be constructively involved in negotiations and to avoid any unilateral procedures.

According to political observers, the Houthis didn't abide by the UNSC's resolution and continued detention of ministers from the outgoing government and concluded agreements which were for the authority of the collective government, the last of them being the memorandum of understanding concluded with Iran over air flights between Tehran and the Yemeni capital.

On February 16, the UNSC issued a unanimous resolution condemning the unilateral resolutions of the Houthi group in Yemen, calling them to leave power, return to dialogue and release President Abdurabu Mansour Hadi
...the second and possibly the last president of Yemen, successor to former President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh...
and the Prime Minister of the outgoing Government, Khalid Bahah.
