| 14 dead in clashes with Abu Sayyaf |

| The death toll from the continuing clashes between Philippine security forces and the Abu Sayyaf militants on the island province of Sulu has soared to 14. Captain Maria Rowena Muyuela also reported that the total number of injured has risen to 35–19 from the Abu Sayyaf and 16 from the elite Army Scout Rangers in the mountains of Patikul, Sulu. Muyuela said the clashes continued until Thursday morning as the soldiers continued to go after the militants who broke into small groups. She added, "Fierce encounters ensued (starting Wednesday) and the troops were being provided with artillery fire and airstrike support against the bigger number of enemies." |
