Pentagon: ISIS Regularly Attacks Airbase Where US Troops Are Based-They Don’t Shoot Back
2015-01-07
Warren described the mortar and gunfire aimed at the sprawling base as “harassment” or “purely nuisance” attacks.
For now?
I'm guessing it's a real nuisance to have someone shoot mortar shells at you...

#13  P2k,Misbehavior before the enemy

None of this applies as the shooters are not considered the enemy.

Maybe they're enemies of Iraq but they are certainly not enemies of the Choom Gang.

#12  Lot of young people with c.o.p.d. symptoms from the burn pits.

#11  Yes, a very sad joke. The worst of Balad was the 'burn pit.' I will never forget that choking smell.

#10  Besoeker - Balad was a joke under one of its first commanders. Had us in the damn CONEX for sleeping, but wouldn't let us sandbag, none at all on the roof. Of course he was sleeping in the solid buildings - those big ones by the gate or else the concrete revetments.

#9  Just once this century... I would like to see the US fight a war to fucking win it.

Wait for spring in Ukraine.

#8  Demorats should never control an army.

#7  They could send me to prison before I would sit out there and be shot at without being able to return fire.

#6  They would take your weapon away and send you to diversity training.
Posted by: jimk   2015-01-07 09:42

#5  Unless they took my weapon away, I do not believe they could stop me from shooting back.

#4  Nothing like violating or issuing orders violating Art. 99 of the UCMJ.

10 U.S. Code § 899 - Art. 99. Misbehavior before the enemy

Any member of the armed forces who before or in the presence of the enemy—
(1) runs away;
(2) shamefully abandons, surrenders, or delivers up any command, unit, place, or military property which it is his duty to defend;
(3) through disobedience, neglect, or intentional misconduct endangers the safety of any such command, unit, place, or military property;
(4) casts away his arms or ammunition;
(5) is guilty of cowardly conduct;
(6) quits his place of duty to plunder or pillage;
(7) causes false alarms in any command, unit, or place under control of the armed forces;
(8) willfully fails to do his utmost to encounter, engage, capture, or destroy any enemy troops, combatants, vessels, aircraft, or any other thing, which it is his duty so to encounter, engage, capture, or destroy; or
(9) does not afford all practicable relief and assistance to any troops, combatants, vessels, or aircraft of the armed forces belonging to the United States or their allies when engaged in battle;

shall be punished by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct.

Then again, if they don't give a rat's ass about law anyway, why bother with the UCMJ?

#3  At #1. Yes, in and out of Balad airbase 2006-2008, not that kool. The bad guys were only a few meters on the other side of the wire. No counter-battery fire, only a noisy C-RAM which was damn little comfort. Shi**ing oneself when the siren went off was no laughing matter.

#1  That's blanket-folder speak for "I don't want to send people outside the wire"

Same crap happened at LSAA, AKA Mortaritaville, back when I was there on a contract a looong time ago.
