| #2 Some years ago, Fisher Cats were imported by the TRWA to the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area on the Cumberland Plateau in East Tennessee. They are not a cat. They look somewhat like a combination of a Martin, ferret, and weasel. There are probably some left--maybe they have even multiplied. They are the bane of small game such as rabbits and cats. The fisher cat gets a bad rap because they seem to just love the taste of cats, and when a domestic cat goes missing within a hundred miles of a fisher sighting, it seems the fisher is always to blame. As we have plenty of coyotes, cats most likely disappear due to the many coyotes around. Some have shown up in the neighborhood here in the city and some cats have disappeared. |
