Reports: Army Detains Wife of al-Baghdadi, Family of Nusra Official
2014-12-03
[AnNahar] The Army Intelligence has reportedly detained a wife of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
chief His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
and the family members of an al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...

Or possibly two al Baghdadi wives and associated offspring, and the al Nusra chippie. Fog o' journalism, or something.
According to As Safir newspaper published on Tuesday, the Army Intelligence in cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies detained one of al-Baghdadi's wives at a border crossing.
That'd be the first wife. Note the details.
She was reportedly using fake identification papers and accompanied by one of her sons.

The security agencies transported her to the defense ministry's headquarters in Yarze for further investigations.

"Military intelligence detained one of his wives, who was traveling with their son, near (Lebanese northeastern border town) Arsal 10 days ago," a security source told Agence La Belle France Presse.

A military source confirmed the arrest and said the woman was a Syrian national, and her son was around eight years old.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
several TV networks reported Tuesday evening that the wife and her daughter were tossed in the calaboose

at the army's al-Madfoun checkpoint in the northern district of Batroun "after she raised suspicions."

The wife was identified as Iraqi national Saja Hamid al-Dulaimi. She was included in the swap deal of the Maaloula nuns.

Media reports said Dulaimi was residing in the northern Dinniyeh district and moving between Dinniyeh, Chtaura and Arsal.
Whereas #2 is Iraqi, has a name, a daughter, was picked up at al Madfoun, and stashing place is unnamed.
It is unclear how many wives the IS leader has.

The Islamic State group released in November a defiant audio recording it said was of chief al-Baghdadi, after air strikes on jihadist leaders in Iraq sparked rumors he had been maimed or killed.

and then swept through much of the country's Sunni Arab heartland, adding chunks of a second country to territory it already held in Syria.

It has carried out atrocities in both countries.

Separately, state-run National News Agency said the Army Intelligence "arrested the wife of al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front official Anas Sharkas, aka Abu Ali al-Shishani, along with her brother Rakan in the Zgharta area of Hilan" in northern Leb.

MTV said Sharkas' father had been arrested several days ago in Leb as LBCI TV said the Death Eater's name was mentioned in the confessions of detained myrmidon leader Imad Jomaa.

LBCI noted that Sharkas "has links to the case of the captive servicemen."

Jomaa's early August arrest in Arsal sparked deadly festivities with the Lebanese army, during which 20 troops and 16 non-combatants were killed.

The turbans also kidnapped 35 troops and coppers before they eventually released seven and executed three.
Rooters adds:
Baghdadi has three wives, two Iraqis and one Syrian, according to tribal sources in Iraq.
Update from An Nahar at 10:30 a.m. ET:
An Iraqi official denied on Wednesday that a woman detained in Lebanon is a wife of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State group.

The denial comes a day after Lebanese officials told media outlets that the authorities are holding a woman believed to be al-Baghdadi's wife.

They said she was detained for traveling with a fake ID.

The reports said the army arrested her more than 10 days ago at a checkpoint at al-Madfoun Bridge in the North. The driver of the car and her 4-year-old daughter and two younger boys were also arrested.

The army has not issued a communique to confirm the arrests.

Iraq's Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan Ibrahim told The Associated Press that the woman is Saja Hamid al-Dulaimi, an Iraqi national who traveled to Syria before arriving in Lebanon, and the sister of Omar al-Dulaimi, who is held in Iraq as a terror suspect.

He added al-Baghdadi has two wives but neither is named Saja al-Dulaimi.
Of course, this says nothing about the Syrian woman picked up in Arsal. Nor about the Al Nusra chippie. Let us compose ourselves to await further clarifications, dear Reader.

Update at 1:15 p.m. ET from An Nahar, a.k.a. "the local rag": "We got SCIENCE!"
Lebanese judicial and military sources insisted Wednesday that a woman detained in Lebanon is a wife of Islamic State chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as Iraq denied the allegations.

“DNA tests have confirmed that the Iraqi woman detained in Lebanon, Saja al-Dulaimi, is a wife of al-Baghdadi,” Turkey's Anatolia news agency quoted a Lebanese judicial source as saying.

“The DNA results of the three children who were accompanying al-Dulaimi turned out to be compatible with al-Baghdadi's DNA samples that were sent by Iraq” to the Lebanese authorities, the source added.

The source also revealed that the children's DNA results matched those of al-Dulaimi.

Meanwhile, An Nahar newspaper reported Wednesday that Lebanese investigators have obtained several pieces of evidence that prove that al-Dulaimi is al-Baghdadi's divorcee.

“Her DNA results and those of her daughter Hajar matched al-Baghdadi's DNA samples that were provided by a Western source,” An Nahar added.

“There is also another material evidence that is being kept under wraps pending further investigations and it has to do with a document that was found in her possession,” the newspaper said.

The interrogation of the woman is being supervised by Lebanon's military prosecutor, according to The Associated Press.

A senior Lebanese military official insisted in remarks to the AP that the woman said she was al-Baghdadi's wife during her interrogation.

The official declined to provide more details about the investigation. He said authorities have also detained, separately, the wife of senior Nusra Front leader Anas Sharkas, who is also known as Abu Ali al-Shishani.

The official refused to give further details about the Syrian woman, beyond saying her first name is Alaa.
