Kenya kills 100 Shaboobs after deadly bus attack

Kenyan security forces have killed 100 militants a day after a deadly attack on a bus. The forces crossed into Somalia to launch two "successful operations on the hideouts of the perpetrators," according to Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto. The camp where the attack was planned was destroyed, Ruto said. On Saturday, Shaboobs ambushed a bus in Kenya and mowed down those who failed to recite Koran verses, killing at least 28 people. The bus, with 60 people aboard, was going from Mandera, near the border with Somalia and Ethiopia, to Nairobi. Militants stopped the bus at a hilly area and stormed in, demanding those onboard recite Koran verses. As others watched, they opened fire on passengers who failed to do so. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was retaliation for mosque raids this week. It described those killed as Christians.
Police this week closed the four mosques in Mombasa, a largely Moslem city unlike much of Kenya where Christians make up 80 percent of the population, on the grounds they had come under the influence of hardliners. "Any place of worship that willfully hosts terror platforms disqualifies itself from the sanctity of a place of worship," Ruto said.
