| 12 wounded as bomb explodes outside Cairo University |

| [Iran Press TV] At least twelve people, including six coppers, have been maimed after an bomb went off outside the main gate of Cairo University in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The bomb detonated near a faculty building across the street from the main university campus in the Nahda Square of Giza district on Wednesday. The maimed have been transferred to hospital, and explosives experts have been dispatched to the scene to help diffuse other possible bombs planted in the area. The injured coppers had been stationed outside Cairo University campus to quell student protests. On Tuesday, a student protester succumbed to the wounds he had sustained during a crackdown by security forces in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria. Omar Sherif had been in a critical condition since October 15, when he was shot during a university campus protest. The 19-year-old fell into a coma after being targeted with birdshot in the head and neck. The Egyptian government has tightened security at twelve leading universities across the country, following a rise in anti-government protests at the start of the academic year. |
