Great story from, of all places, NPR. Hat tip to Hot Air. Once again, motivated, ethical private industry does what government can't do -- perhaps it's because they're results oriented and not blinded by ideology?

#5  Yes P2k. Nasty western colonials also taught the indigenous people how to read and write, find clean water, use modern medicines, use agriculture as opposed to feasting on one another, as well as many other useful activities. Credit for any of that is seldom given however.

#4  Wiping out Yellow Fever in the Panama wasn't the goal of the American government. Building a canal was. However, back then, government had result oriented objectives too. One required goal required the other to occur.
