| Assistant police chief, civilian killed in southern Thailand |

| A bomb blast took the life of a police assistant chief while a member of the public was gunned down last night in southern Thailand. This morning, Nong Chik police assistant Sanit Suktae was killed in a explosion caused by a homemade bomb. Sanit, whose head and body were riddled with bomb shrapnel, was taken to the hospital. When his condition worsened, he was transferred to another hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Pattani police chief, Pol Col Manit Yimyeam said the incident occurred in front of a school in Nong Chik. He said that Sanit was on duty with two other policemen in front of the school when a bomb buried at the road-shoulder was triggered by walkie-talkie. Meanwhile, a local citizen was gunned down in front of his house last night in Pattani province. |
