Obama Goal Of Gitmo Closure Stalled At Pentagon
2014-10-01
[Ynet] The transfer of prisoners out of Guantanamo Bay has ground to a halt amid a slow Pentagon approval process, causing deep frustration within the administration and raising doubts that President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
will be able to fulfill his campaign promise to close the prison for terrorism suspects at the US Navy base in Cuba.
The generals are protecting him from himself. Not to mention their troops from having to fight the same murderous bastards all over again.
A detainee sent back to his native Algeria in March is the only prisoner to have moved out this year, beyond the controversial exchange of five Taliban members in return for long-held captive US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was captured in Afghanistan.
And we all saw how well that went over back home.

#7  Likely every so often a big-bucks donor accosts Mr. Obama at one of the many fundraisers and mentions "Gitmo" and "retirement fund" in the same breath. Hence the dutiful follow up.

#6  No memory or file storage on one of these Bobby. In fact, they're hoping you'll forget. Every day is a new beginning, new hopes, new changes.

#5  I wonder if it has occurred to Champ, or ValJar, to re-evaluate his promise heartfelt desire to close Gitmo - you know, in light of the recent events in the middle east, which no one could have possibly foreseen?

Can't seem to admit he might have been wrong, eight years ago?

#4  Tell Obama don't feel bad about this.
The Pentagon has for years been where ideas go to die. If they can't kill it outright, they'll work it to death.

#3  Afghan detainees are catalogued under the Joint Priority Effects List (JPEL) rap sheet with the 'previous GITMO detainee box' clearly checked, or unchecked. The recidivism rate for these people is indeed staggering.

Releasing them now would only cause more regional mischief and complicate the regimes withdrawal strategy. While clearly reneging on Champ's campaign plan to close GITMO, retaining these vermin at GITMO produces much higher near-term value. To steal an award winning phrase from yesterday, verbal campaign promises aren't worth the paper they're written on.

#1  Why do the powers that be keep wanting to close Gitmo when nobody truly wants it to be closed???
