| No invitation to expelled US official, says Bahrain | |

Bahrain has denied that it extended an invitation to US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour Tom Malinowski to visit the country.
Bahrain’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, said in a statement on Thursday that Bahrain did not invite the US official. The Bahraini official said that current contacts between Bahrain and the United States aim to overcome the effects of Malinowski’s recent visit and to ensure that the deep-rooted ties of friendship between the two countries are not affected. The undersecretary noted that the remarks made by the State Department spokesperson carried several inaccuracies regarding the kingdom, stressing that Bahrain is committed to moving forward with the reform initiative launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He added that Bahrain does not prohibit freedom of expression in accordance with the law as it safeguards its security and stability and guarantees the welfare of its citizens at all times.
