| [DAWN] Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... emir Sirajul Haq ...current head of the Pak Jamaat-e-Islami. Siraj was born in 1962 and entered politics shortly after that... has said the demand for the prime minister's resignation will be lawful only if some constitutional institution gives the verdict that the May 2013 elections were massively rigged and the assemblies were bogus. He was speaking to the media at Mansoora after a meeting of the JI provincial chiefs and central office-bearers on Wednesday. He said the JI wanted the participants in the sit-ins to return home successfully. However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... the consensus of the political parties was that no unconstitutional solution would be accepted and added that even if the sit-in continued for 100 days, only the constitutional way out would be adopted.The JI chief stressed that the court order for the registration of the FIR of the Model Town killings must be complied with. He said if the rulers appeared before the court, their image would improve. He said the nation desired the two sides to sit together and work out a political solution and not to wait for the third option or the interference by the third party. He said the JI was continuing its role of mediator with the support of other parties and he was hopeful that a political solution would be found out soon. Siraj said the JI leaders attending the meeting had expressed grave concern over the worsening situation in the federal capital and they had appealed to the government as well as the protesting parties to show flexibility and find out an early solution to the issues. They also lauded the establishment's role so far. |
