Students Guilty of Burning School in Shakar Dara
2014-08-17
[Tolo News] Four students were found guilty of burning their school down to ashes in Shakar Dara district of Kabul in an attempt to destroy their documents for missing school.

Ghaza High School was burned to the ground last week on Wednesday.

The four students responsible for the crime have confessed to their wrongdoing, police say. The local police are still in search for the fourth student involved in the offense.

"The four of us went to the school to destroy our attendance records, but couldn't find it so we ignited the principal's office," said Abdul Safoor Danesh, one of the four guilty students.

Shakar Dara's Police Commander, Zemarai Naseri, said the four students were on a mission to erase their attendance records in efforts to take part in their exams.

"Four students who could not take part in the exams because of their excessive absences planned to save themselves from being expelled by burning the documents," Naseri said. "After failing to find the needed documents, they destroyed the chairs and ignited the principal's office and expeditiously departed at a goodly pace."

The principle of Ghaza High School said that all the documents have been destroyed in the fire.

"They have committed a grave felony," said Jan Agha Saheb, the education manager of the district. "They lit a sheet of paper on fire and threw it in the principal's office. Despite all efforts, we could not put out the fire."

The four students guilty of the misdemeanor are under the age of 18. They are in the ninth, tenth and eleventh grade.

The scene of the crime led many to guess that anti-government groups were behind the act, but after thorough investigations, the local police and community were stunned to find that a few underage children were behind the wrongdoing.
