Sec Kerry presents complicated cease fire proposal
2014-07-25
1. A one-week, temporary cease-fire, during with Israel Defense Forces troops will not leave the Gaza Strip entirely and will continue to locate and destroy Hamas tunnels.

2. During this cease-fire, Israel and Hamas will begin negotiations on a more permanent arrangement, with Egyptian mediation. The Palestinian Authority will participate in these talks.

3. The United States, the UN secretary-general and the European Union will provide guarantees to both sides that the negotiations will deal with the issues important to them – for Israel, disarming Gaza of its rockets and tunnels, and for Hamas, ending the blockade of Gaza and repairing the damage the Strip has suffered.

Hamas will probably reject this

#11  Again, even iff one presumes that Israel + the PA are able to work out all the nitty gritty details of an effective two-state solution, + agree to finally live in peace, THERES STILL THE MATTER OF EGYPT CLAIMING SOVEREIGNTY OVER GAZA, + JORDAN OVER THE WEST BANK - what is POTUS Bammer + SecState Jaawhn, etal. doing to alter this situation in favor of the Paleos having de facto physical territory to call their own???

In the absence of any changes per the above, IT STILL COMES DOWN TO THE PA HAVING TO RELY MAJORILY OR WHOLLY ON ISRAEL FOR THEIR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

#10  Kerry is furiously attempting to polish his diplomatic cred for another Presidential run against Faux-Cahontis and Biden ("Now with 50% More Stupid") now that Ms. Clintons star is beginning to fade.

#9  I have a real simple ceasefire proposal: Hamas stops shooting rockets at Israel and turns over all their remaining rockets.

No? Very well, carry on, Israel. We'll ask again in a few weeks.

#7  Israel's security cabinet has met for 3 hours trying to figure this out but hasn't yet figured it out

Unless the language is clear . . . .

#5  turns out that phase one has complicated language that hamas interprets as requiring Israel to stop destroying tunnels while Israel has been told by the US that they may continue destroying tunnels

Israel's security cabinet has met for 3 hours trying to figure this out but hasn't yet figured it out

#4  We're a little busy here Jawn (rhymes with yawn), we'll get back to you just as soon as we clean up this mess. (Jawn, do you recall how Obumble's administration green-lighted Hamas and Hezbollah by throwing us under the bus? You probably don't, that was a long time ago back in 2012 and Hilda was SOS. It was Hezbollah that was lobbing rockets into Israel then. Plus, the wuzzie stance ya'll took on Iran didn't help.)?
