Queen Elizabeth II Pulls Off Epic Photobomb
2014-07-25
[An Nahar] The Australian women's hockey team received a royal photobomb on Thursday when Queen Elizabeth II made an unscheduled visit during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Known as the "Hockeyroos," the team was warming down after their 4-0 win over Malaysia when the queen of England arrived early for a Wales-England match scheduled immediately after the Australia game, News.com.au reports.

The Australian players were ecstatic over the surprise appearance and immediately began firing off selfies, hoping to get a shot of the queen as she walked by.

"Ahhh the Queen photo-bombed our selfie!!" hockey player Jayde Taylor tweeted on Thursday, revealing a picture with teammate Brooke Peris as a cheerful Queen Elizabeth smiled behind them.

The queen had arrived in Glasgow the night before to kick off the events during the opening ceremony, according to News.com.au.

When she spotted the "Hockeyroos" after their win at Glasgow Hockey Stadium, the 88-year-old monarch made her way over to the girls and struck up conversations with several of them.

"We were warming down on the second pitch after our game and the queen came out to meet Donny (team captain Madonna Blyth)," Taylor said after the surprise encounter.

"She asked us a bit about the pitch, how we were going and told us to enjoy our time here. She was lovely, really, really lovely."

To be fair, the 29-year-old Aussie from Perth admitted that the royal selfie photobomb took some careful planning.

"Brooke [Peris] and I planned it so that when she came out the door she would be behind us," Taylor said.

"And then she came out and smiled at the camera. We were in the right spot at the right time."

Their strategic photo skills resulted in one of the most entertaining pictures of Queen Elizabeth in the history of the games.

#9  Not to mention it's a bit awkward to have the 'Defender of the Faith' (of the Church of England) to be a closet Muslim...

#8  There was a terrible fire in a stable that housed some of the Queen's horses, as well as those of a number of just ordinary folk. She got out of bed at one o'clock in the morning and went to the scene to comfort people who lost animals (hers were in a different building, and survived). She is one great woman, and she's been a tremendous asset for Britain. Charles should never be allowed within a thousand miles of the title "King". He's arrogant, ignorant, and not terribly bright. Both Andrew and Edward are much more intelligent, as are both of Charles' sons. I hope the Queen recommends that Charles be skipped, and the crown go to William or Harry.

#7  We met an elderly British lady some years back who was a 'lorry' driver, along with the future queen, during WWII. She said that the princess was a 'lovely' person who did her job very well.

Elizabeth also wanted to be a vehicle mechanic, but apparently that was considered too dangerous for a 'Royal' at the time and her father discouraged her from doing so. She obeyed his request.

#6  Rambler, unless Camilla throttles him in a divorce-and-gin-fueled rage, the window is quickly closing on that possibility.
