Connecticut rejects request to house illegal children |
2014-07-17 |
[MYFOXNY] Connecticut officials have rejected a federal request to temporarily house up to 2,000 immigrant children from Central America at a mostly-vacant facility built for developmentally disabled adults. The Republican-American reports the New England office of the U.S. General Services Administration has inquired about leasing space at the Southbury Training School. The federal government planned to cover all expenses, including building maintenance. Patrick M. O'Brien, assistant director of the state's Bureau of Assets Management, emailed back Monday, rejecting the request. He said the building was not suitable because of deteriorating conditions, complex state procedures for using surplus property, and the fact that some people are still housed at Southbury. |

#5 You left out the budget accounting gymnastics, Chantry. BTW, did you get your State $50 rebate check? |

#4 @2 It is and Malloy is in enough trouble as it is, between the gun control laws, a crappy economy that isn't getting any better and apparently snubbing the teachers unions here in CT, he can't afford to piss off any more voters. He barely won the last race against the same person he is going to face this year. |

#3 Only because we couldn't apply a tax to them. Pappy's observation about MD fits CT as well: If it weren't for double standards, he'd had none. |
