Ecuadorians rally against US energy giant, Chevron

[Iran Press TV] A large number of activists in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, have taken to the streets against the US energy giant, Chevron.

The protest rally was held on the occasion of the International Anti-Chevron Day, which is marked across the five continents.

Quito's gathering is held as tensions are rising between Ecuador's government and Chevron.

Quito says the US-based corporation should compensate some 30,000 people affected by its oil extractions in the Amazon rainforest between 1960 and 1990.

President Rafael Correa has also accused the oil company of deceiving Ecuador's justice system. Chevron denies any wrongdoing and says the accusations are baseless
