#4 See also DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS > CHINA WARNS PHILIPPINES, JAPAN: "WE WON'T COMPROMISE ON TERRITORY", or Sovereignty. * CHINESE MILITARY FORUM > CHINA FIRES A SHOT ACROSS US BOW AHEAD OF OBAMA'S ASIA TRIP. Beijing = China not happy about US support for Japan + PHIL, etal. East Asia Allies. and * FREEREPUBLIC > [Foreign Policy] CHINA MIGHT ACTUALLY SEIZE JAPAN'S SOUTHERN ISLANDS. THE RYUKYUS = OKINAWA + ARCHIPELAGO, NOT JUST SENKAKUS. Prolly safe to say also YONAGUNI near TAIWAN. Sniff, sniff, I'm so proud, the Author finally remembered his Alfred Thayer Mahan + related. * RUSSIA TODAY > JAPAN SHOULD RECOGNIZE CRIMEA ACCESSION TO CONTINUE [stalled Russo-Japanese] TALKS OVER [Russia-annexed, Japan-claimed/ disputed] KURILS = DUMA MEMBER. |

#3 Will they remember next time we have a strong leader in the US? Probably not. Or at least a different sector of the population will be complaining at that point. |

#2 Western action and Western messages are being observed and received by a global audience. Hence they have global consequences. Did e.g. this display of submission and surrender make sense in the context of Afghanistan and/or the Arab-Islamic world? Perhaps so. But it was also observed by the likes of Putin and the Chicoms who would draw their own conclusions from this spectacle that is part of a NATO Article 5 mission. Provocative weakness has global consequences. |

#1 What took them so long? It isn't as if there is no evidence of democrat administrations leaving allies high and dry before they're enemies. |
