Mogadishu-Somaliland talks agree to condemn former military dictatorship | |

GAROWE, Somalia -- Following a three-day bilateral talks in the Turkish city of Istanbul, Federal Government of Somalia and SomalilandÂ’s separatist administration Sunday agreed to condemn the heinous acts carried out in the northwestern region by the long standing military government, Garowe Online reports.
Speaking on a government-run radio, Radio Mogadishu the Somali Federal Government national security minister Abdikarin Hussein Guled said: “We agreed to meet in every three months, that a confidence be created and it is clear that the epicenter of the discussions are Somalia’s unity and our brothers [Somaliland] to be returned to the federal government arena”. The bilateral agreement was jointly singed by Gulled and Somaliland’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis with Turkish ambassador to Somalia Kani Torun present. According to the points placed in the deal, a Turkey-based committee that would have representatives from Mogadishu government and Somaliland will be announced within 45 days in an effort to smoothen the dialogue process. | |
