The guerrillas On Wednesday, Maoist insurgents ambushed a security patrol and killed four troopers in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The Maoists have grown from a rag-tag band of ideologues into a potent insurgent force, creating a so-called “Red Corridor” that stretches throughout central and eastern India. They demand land and jobs for the poor, and want to establish a communist society by toppling what they call India’s “semi-colonial, semi-feudal” form of rule.

#1 I have always explained Communists as robber baron capitalist. Robber baron capitalist own everything, including the country store where they set prices just high enough to keep the workers in debt. Naxalites (CPI) make their money by extorting money from the mining companies (e.g Essar and Tata) and other businesses. They blow up schools and keep the uneducated people uneducated and poor. Mobsters by any other name would smell so foul. |
