#5 It's not really Jawn's fault. It's just that he and the rest of the elite haven't been on the receiving end of terrorism, or its after-effects, in a long time (if ever.) When was the last time you think Jawn had to remove his shoes and have his luggage pawed through at an airport?
Seriously, I'm sure Jawn knows about 9/11, sort of. And I'll bet he can recall the Boston Marathon bombing, as an inconvenience if nothing else. I sure the Secretary remembers that Paleos and Arabs used to hijack airplanes and kill passengers. He might have even heard of the USS Stetham, what with him being a decorated Viet Nam naval war hero and all. Speaking of that, I wonder what his view of the Weathermen is. Surely he knew a few of them.
I think the Secretary might have academic knowledge of terror and Paleos. Somebody in State is likely to. There must be a picture of that murdering bugger Arafat on a wall in executive section of the State Department somewhere - the one with him at the UN with a pistol on his hip, the fat-lipped, mincing, sociopathic prat.
But it's been years since there was a real, deadly attack in the US. Even then it didn't affect the elite. Jawn and his ilk have bodyguards, and armored vehicles and gated communities. 9/11 was an opportunity, not a crisis. The Middle East is "over there;" an academic exercise, a chance to rack up the air-miles and get away from the shrill, hard-drinking wife.
So one can't thrash Jawn for what he's doing, no more than one can kick a horse for falling into a well. |
