Egypt's Third Army disperses Suez pro-Morsi sit-in
2013-08-17
[Al Ahram] Egypt's Third Army dispersed a gathering of pro-Morsi protesters Friday in the Egyptian governorate of Suez.

The protesters attempted to camp out in Al-Shohada Square in Suez City after the designated curfew hours from 7pm to 9am prompting the Third Army to disperse them, according to Al-Ahram Arabic news website. The Third Army fired warning shots in the air to clear the sit-in driving Morsi loyalists to the square's side streets.

Armoured vehicles have been supplemented with ground forces to scan the area.

The square has been reopened after protesters blocked the area for most of the day by burning tires.

Nationwide, pro-Morsi protests have been organised on Friday to denounce the police's crackdown on pro-Morsi sit-ins at Cairo's Rabaa Al-Adawiya and Giza's Al-Nahda Square. The dispersal resulted in at least 500 killed and more than 2000 injured.

Moslem Brüderbund Spokesman Gehad El-Haddad said on Friday night via Twitter that protests will continue all week in what he dubbed the "departure week," in reference to the exit of what he described as coup leaders.
