Eight Moro rebels killed in clash with Philippine troops
2013-08-01
Eight BIFF members were killed in a clash with Philippine security forces Tuesday after the terrorists militants tried to seize a cargo truck and petroleum tanker in Guindulungan.

The terrorists rebels reportedly blocked a part of the highway going through Guindulungan and planted improvised explosive devices along the road. Officials said the explosives were meant to pressure businessmen who refuse to give in to the BIFFÂ’s extortion demands.

The BIFF split from the MILF due to differences over negotiations with the government. The BIFF has criticized the MILF leadership for supposedly abandoning its original commitment to independence.

Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman of the Army’s 6th division, said the situation in Maguindanao has returned to normal except for flooding caused by heavy rains. He said, “Perhaps they (BIFF) are resting and are licking their wounds. But they may attack again in a few days."
