Maine lawmakers consider anti-terrorism bill
2013-04-22
A week after the Boston Marathon bombings, Maine legislators are holding a hearing on a bill that deals with terrorism.

A legislative committee was holding discussions Monday on a bill that would prohibit the state and Maine municipalities from doing business with companies that have dealings with other companies that do business with countries that are designated as state sponsors of terrorism.

Rep. Kenneth Fredette of Newport says the bill makes a stand in not giving support to countries that sponsor terrorism. The bill was introduced before the marathon bombings, but the bombings have given it heightened exposure.

An updated terror report is due from the U.S. State Department on April 30. Countries currently listed as state sponsors of terrorism are Cuba, Syria, Iran and Sudan.
