Explaining Obama's Fixation with Israel
2013-03-22
h/t Gates of Vienna
Why does Barack Obama focus so much on Israel and its struggle with the Arabs?

...Why this fixation on the Arab-Israeli conflict, which ranks only 49th in fatalities since World War II? Because of a strange belief on the Left, rarely stated overtly, that this issue is key not just to the Middle East but to world problems.
IMO, Israel's continuous existence is against the theories "cognitive elites" been trained in taught whilst qualifying as cognitive elites.
Never discount the contribution of Jew-hatred. Lots of Europeans in the early 20th century thought that eliminating the 'Jewish problem' on their continent was the key to solving their problems.

#4  Chomsky was able to ignore the Soviet Union entirely in his formulations of American imperialism. Look at any US acts during the cold war without the Soviet Union and we do look pretty crazy and militaristic.

The left has done the same with the middle east, turning a blind eye to Arab provocations leaves only an overly militaristic western power doing all sorts of crazy things.

And of course there is that whole western power thing, that's another bugbear of the left.

#3  The fixation is based on the pointy-headed idea that it's the touchiest single focal point and if they can fix it, everything else will follow.

However this is also applicable:

At least [James L. Jones, then Obama's national security adviser] did not make the outlandish and borderline antisemitic claim that Israel is responsible for all problems in the Middle East; but his milder version of this canard is no less bone-headed. His analysis, sadly, neatly fits the anti-Zionist mentality that increasingly pervades the left wing of the Democratic party

I'd go with 'anti-success' as well, but that's just me.

#2  If Obama and muslims every decide to rejoin human kind in BEING human, it'll be a wonderful day. Til then, I consider them the sworn enemies of all humanity.
