A Mod asks, "Are you a Burger? A real Rantburg Burger?"
2013-03-14
Rolled over from yesterday.

--trailing wife at 12:18 a.m. ET
Our president has shut down "Our House." After he spent a million dollars to play golf with Tiger Woods while his wife and daughters were skiing in Aspen.

We can't let the Rantburg House be shut down..... the conversation from The Rantburg House is needed more than ever.

Total transparency here.... The Rantburg House needs your funds.

Whether you are a student, a professor or both at Rantburg U -- Pell Grants don't apply. But you still have to enroll and purchase expensive textbooks.

Basic truth --- Rantburg (Founder Fred) needs money and it needs yours. You know that ---- so instead of that Starbuck's coffee, that six pack you picked up today after work... scroll down to find that Paypal donate button ----

PayPal not your donate button? There are credit card buttons.

None of these work for you? Comment here the best way for you to ante up your "textbook" purchase and you will be guided to a path for your desired degree.

And where else do you get "The Snark of the Day?"

That's what I'll use, Glenmore. Fred hadn't mentioned moving house.

#29  There'll be a check coming on payday (15th).

I also do all my Amazon shopping through the 'Burg, and suggest others do, too. It's easy - just click on the 'Burg, then click on the Amazon square on the right-hand side a little below the "Donate" button. Then if you buy something, Fred gets a little bit (a tiny little bit, sure - but it's better than nothing).
Posted by: Barbara   2013-03-12 19:57

#28  #5: I second Whiskey Mike - is there a way to do recurring donations? The NYT charges $15/mo for unlimited digital access. A bargain for The Burg, plus the warm fuzzy feeling of giving it to Fred instead would have a value all its own.

swksvolFF: LOL! You'll always remember your $10 lesson, won't you! Like South Park taught us, freedom isn't free. Freedom costs a buck-o-five. :)

#25  I get threatened by the Mods and I'm just not sure

You were warned, not threatened.

It's simple and long-standing rule: Commenters will not make comments at Rantburg threatening the life or health of Americans, including elected officials.

You, in particular, have been warned twice recently about making such comments. Does a "30 caliber curable" comment that you made on March 11th with regards to a US Senator ring a bell?

There will not be a third warning.

Understand?

Am I a Burgher?
My posts vanish, I get threatened by the Mods, and I'm just not sure.
How about posting WHY my posts vanish.

#19  PayPal used for the first time, so I hope it goes through. Thanks Fred et al, I really enjoy the site, the comments and the breadth of the news and commentary. Nice to see sanity amidst the drivel on the web, and some world class sarcasm and experienced insight.

#17  RandomJD, that reminds me of a time back when, walking along I came across a booth whose peddlers wanted me to have a copy of the Bahagva-Gita. "Have this free copy if you just listen to us for 5 minutes and consider a donation". Never read it, so you know wth, only had $10 for the whole day. Listened to their deal about love and community so forth, gave them the 10spot. They said the book was valued at $15, it would be nice if I donated that. "But you said this book was valued at five minutes of my time?! What was that deal about worldy possession possessing us and all?"

But it costs $15!

No, it sells for $15. Looking at that stack you all paid much less for each book, if they weren't donated to you.

Three major moves and children later, I still have that book as some sort of reminder; translation by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Thoreau, Emerson, and Gandhi statements on the back if that helps tell what part of town I was in.

#15   If you're willing to try Paypal, there's an orange "Donate" button to the right of today's Birthday Gam Shot girl.

...and what better place to put a "Donate" button?

#14  I did it. I liked Amazon better but for Rantburg I did Paypal.

Posted by: DarthVader   2013-03-12 11:06

#12  Also, Bill, if you click on PayPal, on the left side of the screen, credit card payment is presented. Look for the question, "Don't have a PayPal account?" And you are good to go.
Posted by: Sherry   2013-03-12 11:01

#11  How do I do that? I am a complete computer phobic so what buttons do I use or am I being thick again?

Bill, if you would prefer to send Fred a check or cash, scroll up to the yellow box in the right margin, click on "E-Mail Me", and send Fred a note asking for his mailing address. If you're willing to try Paypal, there's an orange "Donate" button to the right of today's Birthday Gam Shot girl. Click on that, and do what it tells you. Good luck!

I get my latest unemployment check later in the week and I'll give you my widow's mite for sure.

#5  Sent.

I looked for recurring payments on Paypal but didn't find it. More coffee needed perhaps, and will look again later. But many small monthly payments would probably help more than sporadic requests.

#4  Happy to help, I appreciate the work you do here, and I love the birthday gam shots, I have to admit it!

#3  At a time when I didn't have $1, some dreadlocked douche hawking The Socialist Worker insisted that he had to charge me $1. I asked, "what about, from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs?" He still wanted $1. Well, he didn't get $1, and I didn't get a paper.

So here I am, and I have more than $1 now. Thanks Fred.
