New Al Qaeda Threat: Somewhere There Will Be An Attack By Someone, You Betcha!
2013-01-31
A jihadist website posted a new threat by al Qaeda this week that promises to conduct "shocking" attacks on the United States and the West.

The posting appeared on the Ansar al Mujahidin network Sunday and carried the headline, "Map of al Qaeda and its future strikes."

The message, in Arabic, asks: "Where will the next strike by al Qaeda be?" A translation was obtained by Inside the Ring.

"The answer for it, in short: The coming strikes by al Qaeda, with God's Might, will be in the heart of the land of nonbelief, America, and in La Belle France, Denmark, other countries in Europe, in the countries that helped and are helping La Belle France, and in other places that shall be named by al Qaeda at other times," the threat states.

The attacks will be "strong, serious, alarming, earth-shattering, shocking and terrifying."

Under a section of the post on the method of the attacks, the unidentified writer said the strikes would be "group and lone-wolf operations, in addition to the use of booby-trapped vehicles."

"All operations will be recorded and published in due time," the message said. "Let La Belle France be prepared, and let the helpers of La Belle France be prepared, for it is going to be a long war of attrition."

The Ansar al-Mujahidin network is a well-known jihadist forum that in the past has published reliably accurate propaganda messages from al Qaeda and its affiliates.

#9  Our problem with eliminating the buffalo herd - and this is not a jab at Procopius in any way - is that we need to cut off the sustenance of the terroists. In this world - that really means cutting off their covert sources of funding. The US would need to chop the support coming from places in Qatar, Saudi Arablia and prominent Gulf families. This is extremely difficult to do because a lot of this money is funneled through the traditional Islamic "banking system" and is completely opaque to western eyes. We can't see or track the transactions. The irony is that when the Islamists use communication methods and banking systems that are based on ancient methods from the Quran ... western monitoring is shut out.

The other problem is leverage. To run an operation they only need to fund AK-47's, explosives, bullets, and copies of the Quran. We need to fund drones, airports, spy satellites, helicopters and missiles. Our response is far-reaching, but it costs orders of magnitude more than their own investments. From a strictly financial perspective, our "business" is a losing proposition. This has to change if we're gonna win the long-term struggle.

#8  I point out that this contains exactly as much new information as the August 6, 2001 Presidential daily brief. Bush supposedly failed by not acting on it, so I expect Obama to kick into high gear Real Soon Now.

#7  So ... eliminate the buffalo herd?
Maybe we need a new Buffalo Bill :-)
Hahahaha!!

#6   The West has no answer for this strategy.

Dealt with it for over a hundred years on the frontier. There never was a single unified strategy or policy in dealing with that situation. You wear them down and eventually move troublesome ones to the reservation.

#5  "Whack em down, and they are like Freddy Krueger; somehow/somewhere they come back to life"

Our enemies are willing to outlast us. They may be poorly equipped, they may have no drones and no helicopters, they may be scattered and live in caves ... but they are willing to do it for 50 years or 100 years. The West has no answer for this strategy. The Islamists know we will lose attention and give up sooner or later.

The USA needs a completely new apporach for dealing with long-term terrorism. Big wars and big money did not get us to the final answer. We need to radically re-think our whole approach to this problem.

#4  ...cause the 'policing' approach to deal with the problem worked so well with the Crips, Bloods, etc.

#3  These guys are like the game Whack-A-Mole. Whack em down, and they are like Freddy Krueger; somehow/somewhere they come back to life. OBL trained something like 20K terrorists in the Afghan training camps before we put a crimp in that. If one considers that the 20K+ were like metastatic cancer and spread their evil, it is easy to understand that the problem continues.

#1  But the administration narrative has been that Al-Qaeda has been defeated.
