| #11 Documented side effects from psych drugs are consistent with behaviors evidenced by a lot of these psycho killers. Multiplying out the documented side effect rate by the huge numbers of patients leaves a scarily high number of potentially dangerous people. Maybe not as many as if the drugs were never used on anyone, but still a lot. I have no idea if/how many of the actual killers were or had been on these drugs, but it is a very valid question. |

| #10 Some people are simply not socialized and cannot be socialized. That's all there is to it. If guns did not serve a purpose in deterring tyrants or providing the old or the physically weak with a means of self-defense, I can see a case for banning them. But they do, and Seligman's argument is therefore an instance of hard cases make bad law. |

| #9 2 points to get from Seligman: -- There's a difference between evil and crazy. -- There's no way to predict/control crazy, despite what some shrinks say. I ignored his conclusions about gun control, which don't follow his main point. Every reliable / sane gun owner has friends, relatives & associates who are not. That includes LEO's. | #5 Two things about pschotropic medicines: 1) In many cases they are used as a substitute for psychotherapy. This is because demand for therapists far exceeds supply. It is "cheeper" to throw a bottle of pills at someone than have a therapy session. 2) SSRIs have an unusually high incidence of side effects. In particular 4% of teenage boys and men in their 20's exhibit manic behavior when given these drugs. When you consider the number of young men given these drugs, and the number of men having side effects, it's amazing that we don't have more shootings. |
