#4 They want to ban assault weapons based on aesthetics, i.e. how a weapon looks or appears, NOT on whether it fires on full automatic, semi, or single-shot. Even so-called "high-capacity" magazines are tertiary to this, iff not irrelevant to the argument. By most accounts the Founding Fathers desired a small but potent standing army - they also desired an armed and "well-regulated Militia" whose firearms were [roughly] par wid that of the either the US Military or Foreign Armies, IN ORDER TO DETER EITHER THE RISE OF STRONG DICTATORIAL/TYRANNICAL US GOVT AS WELL AS INVASION BY ENEMY foreign ARMIES FEARFUL OF resistance by A SIMILARLY POWERFULLY ARMED US CIVILIAN POPULATION. |

#3 "because some a'hole will whine those in the poorer districts couldn't afford one, so all must be at risk?" Well, yeah, P2. Just like in Sweden (?) where the school authority wanted a lunch lady to stop making home-made food in one school because the others didn't have it. (Only more serious.) :-( |

#2 Why not by subscription? Schools have various 'drives' for bands and sports, why not security? Maybe because some a'hole will whine those in the poorer districts couldn't afford one, so all must be at risk? |

#1 The NRA recommended that there be armed officers at all the schools. That is probably not feasible from a cost standpoint. However, the schools in our city did have a police officer in middle and high schools. We had had a number of incidents over the last 10-12 years. At some point (fairly recently) during this administration (O's), the funds were cut and many of these officers were removed. |
