| #6 The whole idea of "war crime" is an oxymoron. There are no rules to war that aren't purely pragmatic. Don't use poison gas cause your enemy will double down on it, mutually assured destruction. The original Star Trek had a good episode where the horror of war was reintroduced to a culture where it had become a clinical bit of background noise. War SHOULD be horrible so people will think twice about engaging in it AND so that if you do go, you go all out to win. |

| #5 As opposed to Assad's forces distribution of rainbows and glitter? Assad's fighting this war by WWII rules. He tells the civilian population to get out and then he pounds the area. The opposition isn't "liberating" cities like Aleppo and Damascus - it's bringing the war to those areas by occupying them instead of sticking to attacks on military outposts and looting civilian homes if the inhabitants abandon these war zones. This is probably why support for the rebels has been limited and grudging - these people are like locusts who destroy everything they touch. |
