| Defense volunteer gunned down in southern Thailand | |

| A village defense volunteer was killed in an ambush in Narathiwat province early Friday morning. He was identified as Amdusama Sama, 55, of Rueso district. Witnesses said that the victim was traveling in his pickup truck when gunmen hiding in roadside trees fired on him with AK47 assault rifles. The attackers then fled. Amdusama was shot twice in his head and chest and taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police blamed separatist
