Obama Campaign Slams Romney Joke on Birth Certificate
2012-08-25
[An Nahar] Republican White House hopeful Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the presumptive Publican nominee for president. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney's charisma is best defined as soporific, which is probably why he is leading the Publican field. On the plus side, he isn't President B.O...
on Friday appeared to wade into the birther conspiracy about President Barack Obama
Why can't I just eat my waffle?...
when he made a joke about his own birth certificate.

Speaking about his Michigan roots, Romney mentioned the hospitals in which he and his wife Ann were born, then said: "no one's ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."

The comment was received with applause and cheers from many of the estimated 10,000 people at a campaign rally on a Michigan farm.

But it was an awkward connection to a long-standing conspiracy fueled by right-wing conservatives who question whether Obama was born in the United States.

Obama has been dogged by the birther conspiracy since he ran for president in 2008, and it continued after he released his "long-form" birth certificate in 2011 which showed he was born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu's Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital.

Romney's campaign has stated in the past that the candidate does believe Obama was born in the United States.

The Obama campaign issued a swift response to Romney's Michigan comments, saying he was bowing to bully boy elements in his Republican Party.

"Throughout this campaign, governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them," Obama campaign front man Ben LaBolt said in a statement.
"An' he better quit makin' fun of B.O. or he's really gonna get it!"

#18  Nuff said Iblis, Pelosi signed the certification statement: both of them. Both Pelosi and Obama are serial liars. Pelosi is a few fries short of a happy meal. Looks like Romney struck paydirt on his comment.

#17  BP:

Pellosi signed the statement confirming Obama's eligibility.

#16  #8 is on the mark. He can't stand the ridicule. His hissy-fits make him look even more foolish

#15  His staff is so incompetent, they could not even make the forgery look real.

#14  1) Obama is president, so I assume someone did check.
2) that Birth certificate "scan" on the website is totally false.

Without going into Birther conspiracy theory stuff, that PDF is rather odd.

#11  Obama thought he was born in Kenya until he thought he wasn't.

#10  The writing between the lines is not actually about birth certificates. I don't expect the liberal press would get it. Romney acts America so nobody would bother to check, you just know. Obama on the other hand does so many things that just seem foreign that it builds up doubt in the mind warranted or not.

Brilliantly crafted joke that works on multiple levels and that it gets under Obama's skin is just icing on the cake.

#9  They don't get it. The point is that this guy is more of an American than loads of those with birth certificates that live and work within the Beltway.

#7  Romney should release his birth certificate in lieu of his tax returns, then pretend it was just a mistake on the part of his staff.

#5  The other side of this is that Romney is putting out the idea that regardless of where he was born Obama is not an "American" in values, culture or principles.

#4  I think it was smart for Romney to do this. Champ likes to trash-talk but he doesn't like it thrown back at him. I'd like to see Romney start to live inside Champ's head for the balance of the campaign.

#3  Romney's campaign has stated in the past that the candidate does believe Obama was born in the United States.

Maybe he ought to talk to Sheriff Joe and get educated.

#1  He can poke fun about it himself, no problem. Nor is there a problem with him calling himself shameless kaffir, just don't let anyone else say it. Also quite alright to slot dozens each week end in Chicago, to include innocent infants and children. We have our own standard of decorum. You just wouldn't understand.
