Malaysia is hosting talks between the government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The renewed discussions follow up on those in Kuala Lumpur in April, when negotiating teams completed "The Decision Points on Principles," contained in a document signed by the two groups.Filipino presidential adviser on the peace process Teresita Deles said, "We are hoping that the next round of talks will be able to build on the gains established with the signing of the Decision Points on Principles during the April meeting."
Topics being negotiated include power-sharing and resources, increased Muslim participation, more active Shariah courts, the implementation of "Islamic principles of justice and fairness in the region to promote the efficient administration of justice" and the development of an autonomous political regime that can replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
