US and France 'join fighting' against al-Shabab |
2011-10-25 |
[Sydney Morning Herald] Foreign military forces have joined the offensive against the al-Shabab militant group in Somalia as Kenyan troops advanced towards the rebel stronghold of Kismayu, a Kenyan military spokesman, Major Emmanuel Chirchir, said. The US or France, or possibly both, had stepped up airstrikes in the past few days, killing al-Shabab militants, he said. The French navy has also shelled rebel positions from the sea, Kenyan officials said. However, the US and France have not confirmed involvement in Somalia. |

#4 Aren't the French taking over command of British forces? I thought the SAS, for example, was now under French command. According to this old Telegraph article, France and the UK were to combine their forces: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/8103057/British-combat-troops-to-come-under-French-command.html |

#3 Why does Bambi love France these days?He calls them his closes ally! In UK we feel Obama loves France more than the Brits. It must be the anti colonial Kenyan background! The 'Special relationship' is doomed with Obama in charge! |
