Two Soldiers Dead as Sources Say Qaeda Trains Somalis in South Yemen
2011-08-29
[Yemen Post] Two soldiers were killed and others injured when armed people ambushed a military vehicle in Yemen's southern Shabwa province, local sources were quoted as saying on Saturday.

The ambush took place east Ataq city while the soldiers were on duty guarding oil facilities, the website said.

The armed people confiscated the vehicle and bravely ran away, it said, adding that the authorities declined to comment.

Meantime, well-informed sources have told the Yemen Post that Al-Qaeda is currently training Somali people in Shabwa amid reports gunnies of those who have been fighting the army in Abyan province have infiltrated into the province.

Lately, the UNHCR said that the exodus of African refugees, mostly from Somalia, was increasing, triggering fears Al-Qaeda affiliates in the African horn country could reach Yemen's coasts as refugees.

In recent years, AQAP, which has been described as the most dangerous branch of the global Al-Qaeda network, has conducted many attacks in the south targeting military and security commanders, vehicles and convoys and offices killing and injuring dozens.
