Kuwait MPs seek to quiz top official
2011-03-24
[Arab News] Opposition politicians are seeking to question a senior government official over alleged misuse of public funds in housing deals and other projects.

Tuesday's formal request to question deputy prime minister for economic affairs, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, is the latest push by Kuwait's anti-government bloc to draw attention to accusations of political abuses by the government and the ruling family.

Kuwait has the Gulf's most powerful Parliament. It has twice brought no-confidence motions against the prime minister, who survived both times.

The latest accusations claim Sheikh Ahmad mishandled public funds in contracts for housing and sporting events. The questioning is expected on April 5.
