| Engineer sentenced to 32 years in jail for selling US secrets to China |

| (KUNA) -- A US district court in Hawaii sentenced former US defense contractor Noshir Gowadia to 32 years in prison on Tuesday for providing channeling technical military data and classified defense information to China. Gowadia, 66, worked as an engineer for private defense firm Northrop Grumman from 1968 to 1986, was found guilty by a federal jury in August of five criminal offenses involving his design for the cruise missile exhaust system, and convicted of unlawfully exporting classified information about the US B-2 bomber. "He broke his oath of loyalty to this country," said Judge Susan Oki Mollway passing sentence after a hearing in Honolulu, Hawaii, "He was found guilty of marketing valuable technology to foreign countries for personal gain. " According to prosecutors, Gowadia traveled to China six times from 2003 to 2005 to provide information to assist China with a cruise missile system by developing an exhaust nozzle resistant to detection. When Gowadia was jugged in 2005, he had been paid at least USD 110,000 by China, the Justice Department said. Gowadias case comes days after Glenn Duffie Shriver, 29, was sentenced to four years in prison for conspiring to join the Central Intelligence Agency in order to provide national defense information to China intelligence officials. He was charged with one count of conspiracy. |
