#6  Did I read this article right? It was commisioned in 1972 and decommisioned in 1985! That's a mighty small life span for such an expensive ship, if so.

#5  Why steal tech and spend millions (or billions) to bring it on line when you can buy it for a dime on the dollar (basically salvage value).

#4  A single carrier is a target. It takes more than owning one to have an effective carrier fleet. You need a lot of planes, some pretty awesome pilots, a fleet dedicated to protecting the valuable asset.

If China wants a carrier it'll help them train their navy and naval aviators, help against pirates, and perhaps disaster relief and make a lot of the folks proud of their nation but it won't be a threat. If they get a second or third carrier however.

#3  He offers two and a half times their asking price? I would only agree to that if a whole bunch of mods were welded into its hull, so that if rebuilt that way, it would be so heavy and unwieldy that the engines and stabilizers of the USS Reagan couldn't make it work.

Again, time for the US to consider selling either the Kennedy or the Nimitz to India. It would make the Chinese poop lime Jello with envy.

#2  I wonder if Amazon ever considered running a distribution center 'just off the coast' to avoid the clutches of desperate legislatures trying to pry the last pound of flesh from the productive.

#1  Sell it, but first weld a good sized bomb into the hull where it's very hard to detect, then IF it's used as a warship again, sink it.
