| Qaida Claims Deadly Attack on Shiites in Yemen |

| [An Nahar] Al-Qaeda has said it carried out a suicide kaboom which killed 23 people at a procession of supporters of Iranian catspaws in north Yemen last week, the SITE Internet monitoring service reported on Sunday. It was the first time Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which is virulently anti-Shiite, has claimed an attack against Zaidis, also known as Huthis, who are engaged in an on-off rebellion against the Sanaa regime. In a statement dated November 25 and posted online on Sunday on jihadist websites, AQAP called the Houthis "legitimate targets," and said "new attacks are being prepared" against them, SITE reported. A suicide car boomer targeted Wednesday's religious procession in a deadly attack which a tribal chief charged was an attempt bid by Al-Qaeda to fan sectarian tensions in the already restive country. Tribal leaders said the dead were all supporters or fighters of the Zaidi Iranian catspaws who have been observing an uneasy truce with the government since February. |
