Somali pirates free German cargo ship |
2010-10-27 |
[Iran Press TV] Somali pirates have released the hijacked German merchant vessel Beluga Fortune along with its 16-strong crew without getting a ransom payment. "The cool-headed behavior...of the Beluga crew on board and the quick action of navy units...left the pirates no other option than to give up their dream of a million (dollar) ransom and to flee," Rooters cited Beluga Shipping as saying in a statement released on Monday. The freight ship had been seized on Sunday about 750 nautical miles east of the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Beluga Fortunate was the second commercial vessel to be captured off the coast of Somalia in the last three days. Somali pirates hijacked the Singapore-flagged liquefied petroleum gas tanker MV York on Saturday night as it was traveling from Mombasa to Mahe in the Seychelles. |
