kaboom!at around 8:00 am (07:00 GMT) on the main road linking Algiers to Tizi Ouzou, at the entrance to the village of Si Mustapha, some 65 km east of the capital, these sources said.
The blast caused a giant traffic jam on this road, very busy in the morning.
Boumerdes is one of the most affected regions by the attacks, several groups claiming allegiance to al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb being particularly active.
