A firefight between a detachment of the Mexican Army and apparent drug gang members has left six armed suspects dead and one soldier wounded according to Mexican news accounts.
The gunfight took place in the municipality (county) of Nueva Ciudad Guerrero where a patrol with the Mexican 7th Military Zone was directed to an area by an army helo where suspected gang activity was taking place.
Reports say at the scene gang members open fired on the patrol and the patrol returned fire, killing six.
In the aftermath, the army seized seven rifles, 38 magazines, a grenade launcher, several rounds of ammunition and a truck.
