One killed, six wounded in Baghdad bombings
2010-10-08
(Xinhua) -- An Iraqi was killed and six people, including a traffic police colonel, were maimed in two bomb attacks on Thursday, a well-informed police source said.

A roadside kaboom went off near a passing traffic police vehicle near the al-Tayaran Square in Bab al-Sharji district, a busy commercial area in downtown Storied Baghdad, killing a passer-by and severely wounding three coppers, one of whom was a colonel, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Also in the central capital, three civilians were maimed when an explosive charge exploded near their car in the Shalchiyah neighborhood, close to the Shiite mosque of Buratha, the source said.

Violence and sporadic high-profile attacks are still common in Iraqi cities, shaping a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normality in the country after violence-torn Iraq held parliamentary elections about seven months ago.
