2010-10-05
[Bangla Daily Star] The Special Court-11 trying BDR mutineers at the Pilkhana headquarters yesterday framed charges against 84 accused personnel of Dhaka Sector Rifle Headquarters and asked the prosecutor to place witnesses before it on November 7.

Out of the 84 alleged mutineers present on the dock, five pleaded guilty while the remaining 79 claimed themselves as innocent.

The five who pleaded guilty are Lance Nayek Jahangir Alam, Lance Nayek (driver) Awal Hawlader, sepoys Imran Hossain, Rafiqul Hossain and Anwar Hossain.

Awal, driver of slain Col Mujibul Haque, however told the court in a voice choked with emotion that he had been languishing in jail for a year though he did not even harm a leaf of tree in Pilkhana during the mutiny.

Still he is pleaded guilty, as charges have been brought against him, he said.

The special court led by Col Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud BDR Sector Commander of Mymensingh started its proceedings at about 10:10am and continued for nearly an hour and a half.

A total of 84 accused border guards were produced before the court prior to the beginning of its proceedings.

The court adjourned its hearing till 10:00am on November 7.

Prosecutor Major Md Taslim Uddin had brought six charges, including killing, looting arms and plotting the mutiny, against the accused.

Earlier, the accused of the sector were tried under BDR Special Court-5, which is one of the six courts formed after the bloody carnage at Pilkhana that left 74 people including 57 army officials dead.
