Obean appoints Asian Carp Czar
2010-09-08

It's a guy named John Goss.

[Note: I just couldn't find a picture of John, so instead here's one of a carp.]

#20  Never seen one more than 2 1/2 to 3' long

There's a four to five foot long aligator gar at the Prattville Bass pro Shop, about 5 miles from my house. (They've got an indoor lagoon) come see one tremendous fish, I wouldn' want one of those on the end of MY line, he'd probabaly drag me in.

#19  To paraph 1990's MAHA-RUSHIE > IFF CONSUMERS EAT + BUY IT, THE FREE MARKET WILL FARM + MASS-PRODUCE IT. Bio, Aqua Farming + Mass Production. The Environ will only be affected as necessary to satisfy hungry Humans.

#18  What's that one carp destroying the native fish habitat along the upper Missisippi? It's one that hate loud noises and starts to jump every where if one revs a boat motor?

#17  I've seen schools of alligator gar to 4 feet churning the the Tennessee river in Alabama. Tilapia is an asian carp.It was imported from
Asia to eat grass in catfish ponds. From there to your local supermarket. And they try to convince you it tastes good.

#16  There's quite a few gator gar in Lake Oconee, Ga. Never seen one more than 2 1/2 to 3' long just smack on the boat cut the line and and move on.

Nasty looking animal.

My Cambodian bro-in-law won't even eat them so that should tell you something.

#15  Beavis, we never caught alligator gar in Alabama. I do remember visiting my maternal Grandparents who lived in Enid, Oklahoma and catching them, but never in Alabama. We caught a lot of catfish and Alligator snapping turtles along with a couple of alligators. This was back in the late 50's-early 60's.

#14  Deacon she ever do that to alligator gar?

#13  My Mom would soak carp in a brine for 24 hours, then wash it in clear running water for 20 minutes then pressure cook it. Bones and all. She would then mix it with bread crumbs and spices, roll it into balls, and bake it. Alabama Salmon Croquets.

#11  BTW.. Asian Carp can be served with only slight modification using one of the great Chinese Yellow Fish recipes.

#10  Oh... and a tip off or clue to the government regulator who thinks local Asian's don't eat food like these carp...

When you go to, say a Chinese Restaurant, you get the menu of items sanitized and tailored to the US palate. If you don't believe me watch the Chinese family come in. They get the menu you got and one or two others. The other menus might have a few words in English but not enough to know what's being served.

So what is being served ... many things including some that would make the Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmer blanch. If asian carp is not on one of these menus it can usually be ordered ahead of time, along with the pressed pig ear cartilage, and other delicacies... even simple stuff for folks like me who like the pork in pickled mustard greens...

#8  Water Modem, your solutions reflect common sense and logic.

They'll never be understood by this curent batch of posers in the WH.

#6  Easy solution to the Carp problem that nobody in this retarded state seems to understand.

Asian's love to eat this carp! Really!
Harvest them industrially and sell in Chicago's China Town and Viet town and in Oriental markets and H-Marts.

The problem could solve itself.

Just issue unlimited fishing licenses for this species. No need for a Czar.

#5  That's not a carp! That's a harp[y]!

#4  Finally! They have quit carping and are doing something. Durbin wants to get rid of the bottom feeders. Maybe he should start with himself.
